Bin Zayed International & Perdana University Foster Scholarship Collaboration to Support Emerging Talent

At Bin Zayed International (BZI), we believe that true progress begins with people. This belief came to life for us when we partnered with Perdana University to launch a scholarship collaboration to support aspiring medical students from underserved B40 communities across Malaysia.

Backed by a total commitment of RM4.5 million over five years, the Bin Zayed International & Perdana University Scholarship Programme offers full financial support, including tuition and academic expenses for 11 deserving students pursuing their Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) degrees. For us, this initiative reflects our belief that talent should never be held back by financial barriers. It is our way of giving young Malaysians the chance to chase their dreams with confidence.

The launch event in Kuala Lumpur with representatives from both institutions was more than a formal announcement; it was a celebration of hope. As scholarship recipients shared their stories, the room fell silent. Many were visibly moved to tears by the raw emotion and gratitude expressed.

One of the recipients, 19-year-old Namartha Vengadarama, spoke with quiet pride and joy:

“I can’t describe the joy in words,” she said, recalling the moment she hugged her mother after receiving the news. “The whole family was very proud because I was the first person in the family to become a doctor. Medical courses are among the most expensive. I don’t want to burden my parents anymore. Now I can be financially independent,” she said.

Another student, Noraffan Jaafar, shared his journey of resilience. After missing out on a medical placement through UPUOnline, he had enrolled in a biochemistry program at Universiti Putra Malaysia. But his heart remained set on pursuing a career in medicine.

“When I managed to get a full scholarship from BZI… my heart was filled with joy,” he said, visibly emotional.

These voices are a powerful testament to our belief in education as a pillar of national progress and aligns with Malaysia’s ambition to strengthen its healthcare development goals. This collaboration underscores our belief in education as a driver of national progress, while supporting Malaysia’s ambition to strengthen healthcare development and advancing SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being) and SDG 4 (Quality Education).

This scholarship goes beyond financial aid; it is a lifeline and a recognition of human potential. Through giving back, we aim to empower and support future doctors, but also to inspire them to give back, creating a lasting ripple of opportunity for others.
